Florrol Strategic Advisory Brief

STOP CHATTING WITH AI. PUT IT TO WORK.

The important change is not the prompt. It is the relationship.

Most people are still using artificial intelligence as a conversation partner.

That made sense at the beginning.

ChatGPT was introduced to us through a chat window. So we naturally learned to interact with it the same way we interact with another person: discuss the problem, exchange ideas, talk about possible approaches, refine the plan, and eventually decide what somebody should do.

That is Chat mode.

The more important transition now is from conversation to work.

My advice to individuals and organizations is remarkably simple:

Switch from ChatGPT Chat to ChatGPT Work.

Then give it a role and give it responsibility.

For example:

“You are my VP of Operations. Do all the work.”

Hit Enter.

Then follow the instructions ChatGPT Work gives you.

That’s it.

The important change is not the prompt. It is the relationship.

When two humans are conversing about work, there is a great deal of communication:

THE OPERATING SHIFT

“What do you think we should do?”

“Here’s how I might approach it.”

“Should we research this first?”

“Let’s put together a plan.”

“What should the final deliverable look like?”

They open the files.

They research.

They calculate.

They organize.

They write.

They build.

They check their work.

They produce the deliverable.

But when a capable person is actually doing the work, something very different happens.

They become quiet.

They open the files. They research. They calculate. They organize. They write. They build. They check their work. They produce the deliverable.

The conversation largely disappears because the work has begun.

AI is moving through exactly the same transition.

Most people are still measuring their AI experience by the quality of the conversation.

The better question is becoming:

What did it produce?

Did it analyze the business?

Did it build the spreadsheet?

Did it prepare the presentation?

Did it research the market?

Did it write the operating plan?

Did it organize the project?

Did it finish the work?

This sounds like a small change in behavior. It is not.

It is the transition from AI as an advisor beside you to AI as productive capacity working for you.

For organizations, this changes how AI should be introduced to employees.

Do not simply teach people how to write better prompts.

Teach them how to delegate.

Give the AI a position.

Give it the objective.

Give it access to the relevant materials.

Tell it to do the work.

Then evaluate the artifact it produces.

The next generation of AI productivity will not come primarily from employees having better conversations with machines.

It will come from employees learning when the conversation should stop.

Humans have always understood this distinction.

We talk before the work.

We talk after the work.

During the work, capable people are often remarkably quiet.

They are busy doing.

AI has reached that point too.

Stop asking it what you should do.

Tell it to do it.
